About the MLA
The MLA is the collective voice of its members and provides many opportunities for input from the membership.
The heart of the MLA is our 1200 members, the majority of whom are lobstermen along the Maine coast.
The MLA also has many "Businesses" and “Friends” who support the organization as members. Many of these businesses also provide discounts to the MLA membership.
As a celebration of the MLA's 50th Anniversary in 2004, a booklet highlighting many issues, challenges and personalities that have defined the MLA was printed and distributed to our supporters. Please read our booklet, "MLA: The Fist 50 Years" here , or call the office to request a copy.
The Board of Directors:
Directors are elected by the membership at our Annual Meeting held every March during the Maine Fishermen’s Forum. Members are encouraged to make nominations and vote at the Annual Meeting.
MLA Directors are responsible for soliciting feedback from members. They are down on the docks, interacting with lobstermen in order to keep the organization informed.
The MLA holds monthly meetings in Belfast, Maine and encourages members to attend these meetings. The meetings schedule is posted on the MLA website.
The MLA keeps our members up to date through our monthly newsletter and email list. The MLA newsletter provides in depth information on pressing issues while the email list provides an opportunity for immediate dissemination of information and feedback from members.
The MLA’s well informed membership is the backbone of the organization.
The Maine Lobstermen's Association staff and Board Members work hard for the industry on many different levels.
The MLA staff and Board focus time and efforts on on several areas of interest. Go to our current issues page to learn more.
